ELKINS FARMERS MARKET: Open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon behind the Railroad Depot in Elkins. Parking can be found behind the Center Branch Church (formerly the Summit Church) buildings. The market consists of a large variety of vegetables during the growing season, eggs, cakes, cookies, jams, breads, flowers, crafts and many more items.
OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. Fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, bass are welcome. Participants enter through the back door. Contact dp-foot@hotmail.com.
WEDNESDAY PICKIN': Country Music and Old-Time Jam Sessions will take place at Elkins City Park in the Sycamore Street Pavillion every Wednesday for the rest of the summer. Country Music Jams are from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Old-Time Music Jams are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Some jams may start sooner or end later. Players, singers and listeners are welcome. CHICKEN BBQ: The Randolph County Humane Society will host a chicken barbecue on Saturday, Sept 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church parking lot in Elkins. The dinner will include chicken, baked beans, chips, a cookie and water.
CHENOWETH REUNION: The 112th Chenoweth Reunion will be Sept. 5 at the Chenoweth Shelter located on Chenoweth Creek Road. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with lunch served at noon. Please bring a covered dish and item for raffle. Plates and cutlery will be provided.
JOHN W. FINCHMAN REUNION: will be Saturday, Sept. 5, at noon at the Montrose Community Building, 175 Oak Street. All family and friends are welcome. Attendees should bring a covered dish and items for the cakewalk.
HAYMOND REUNION: The annual Haymond reunion will be held Sunday, Sept. 6 at the Arlington Community Building. Lunch will begin at 1 p.m. All family members are invited to bring their favorite filled covered dish to add to the smorgasbord. Tableware will be provided.
RANDOLPH COUNTY DEMOCRATIC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: will meet Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the Democratic Headquarters, 117 Third Street, Elkins. This meeting is free and open to the public. For more information call 304-641-0751 or go to the website randolphcountydems.com.
GRAND FEATURE PARADE SEATS: Forest Festival Grand Feature Parade seats will be available at the Otterbein United Methodist Church at 1100 South Davis Avenue in Elkins. The seats are for the Oct. 3 parade and will go one sale on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Parade seats may be reserved by calling the church office at 304-636-0569, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All seats must be paid for by Friday, Sept. 25. Seats that are not paid for by Sept. 25 will be resold. Proceeds from the sale of the chairs will benefit various women's and children's missions.
RANDOLPH COUNTY DEMOCRATIC WOMEN: will meet on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the RC Democratic headquarters, 117 Third Street, Elkins. BRIDGE-DEDICATION CEREMONY to rename the Kerens Bridge Lazy Run on Corridor H as the U.S. Army Pvt. Preston D. Vanscoy Memorial Bridge will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 at the Leading Creek Fire Hall in Kerens. Vanscoy, 32, was stationed in France when he was killed by artillery shell fragments in his arm on Sept. 30, 1944, during World War II and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart medal. Vanscoy was interred in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in Lorraine, France. A reception will be held prior to the bridge-dedication ceremony. BUCKWHEAT PANCAKE BREAKFAST: will be Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Homestead Community Center in Dailey from 7 to 11 a.m. Benefits Homestead Community Center and Home of the Soul Church.
TRIVIA NIGHT: Randolph County Young Life will be holding its first annual community trivia night on Sept. 12 beginning at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Trivia night will include four rounds of trivia with eight questions in each round. Participants will have an opportunity to gain additional points by playing some traditional Young Life games. There will also be a dessert “mini-bite” buffet and an opportunity for participants to bid and take home their favorite dessert. Teams are comprised of 6 to 8 contestants while individuals can also register and they will be placed on a team when they arrive.
BREAKFAST AND PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Randolph Lodge IOOF will host the first of the season sourdough buckwheat and pancake breakfast at the Lodge Hall on the Beverly Five-Lane on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 7 a.m. until noon. The menu will include sourdough buckwheat cakes, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, milk, coffee and orange juice. Carry outs will be available.
TOPS 0590 MILL CREEK: meets at the Russell Memorial Library in Mill Creek every Wednesday. Weigh-in is from 10:30-10:45 a.m. The meeting follows weigh-in. For information, call 304-338-6403.
