KERENS - A Kerens man is in custody and has been charged with the death of Nakeia Alisa Moore after being found at the home where he allegedly shot her during an altercation.
Jason Richard White, 37, is charged with one felony count of first-degree murder. He was taken into custody late Tuesday evening and booked into Tygart Valley Regional Jail at 10:30 p.m. No bail has been set.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Tucker County Magistrate Court, at approximately 5:11 a.m. on Sunday, Tucker County 911 received a call referencing a woman that had been shot at 905 Pheasant Run Road in Tucker County, near the community of Kerens.
West Virginia State Police Trooper 1st Class J.J. Schmidle, members of the Tucker County EMS and several other law enforcement officers were notified. WVSP Cpl. J.E. Kopec was first on the scene and identified the victim as Moore, 33, who was lying in the residence with a single gunshot wound to her chest, according to court documents.
At that time, Moore was unable to identify the individual who shot her, police said. She was transported by EMS to Davis Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
WVSP 1st Sgt. K.L. Keplinger arrived on scene and located White sitting outside the residence with Kopec. White told officers he discovered Moore in the residence with a gunshot wound and ran next door to call 911, the complaint states.
White told police he was not at the residence when Moore was shot and had not seen anything. Schmidle notes in the report that White is on home confinement and had a GPS monitoring device attached to his ankle.
On Monday, Keplinger located a witness who said they heard a gunshot in the “immediate area of the incident.” The witness said the gunshot was at approximately 5 a.m. Sunday, the complaint states.
Schmidle also was notified by the community corrections program that GPS points for White’s monitoring device placed him at the Pheasant Run Road residence at the time of the shooting, according to the complaint.
On Tuesday, officers identified a second witness who was at the scene of the shooting. When WVSP troopers and members of the Mountain Region Drug and Violent Crime Task Force interviewed that witness, the person said White and Moore had been “up arguing all night.” The witness added the arguing “started to escalate” and the witness left, leaving only White and Moore at the home. The witness was “no more than 10 feet from the residence when a gun shot was heard,” the complaint states. The witness said White came out of the residence and said to get help.
White and Moore were facing drug-related charges from December 2016 in Randolph County after they were found together in a vehicle with methamphetamine and a firearm.
On Feb. 28, White was indicted on two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, one felony count of conspiracy and one misdemeanor count of possession by prohibited person of a firearm. On the same day, Moore was indicted on one felony count of conspiracy to commit the offense of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
According to documents in the Randolph County Circuit Clerk’s office, Moore’s charge was still pending. A motion had been made to revoke her bond and a warrant for her arrest had been filed; however, it hadn’t been executed prior to Sunday’s shooting.
The drug-related charges against White are also still pending in Randolph County Circuit Court.
