Elkins Community Christmas Bazaar scheduled for today

ELKINS — The fourth annual Elkins Community Christmas Bazaar at the Phil Gainer Community Center begins at 10 a.m. today.

“We are so excited to welcome in the holiday season this Saturday with what has become a popular annual event here at the Center,” said Chris Lee, facility manager for the Phil Gainer Community Center. “We’ve got over 35 vendors this year selling everything from children’s books and nice smelling things, to jewelry and primitives.

“Purchasing Christmas gifts and decorations this holiday season from these vendors not only shows support for their artistry, craftsmanship and/or hard work, but also provides the shopper with an opportunity to peruse some really cool items,” Lee added.

Concessions will be available from Blazed BBQ Joint throughout the day, and a very special visitor by the name of Santa Claus will be stopping by between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to spend time with the kids.

Pictures with Santa are available thanks to the helpful elves at the Randolph County Humane Society. They will be accepting donations toward the cause, and will also have adoptable pets on the property between ten and two.

Registration for the Christmas to Remember K begins at 10 a.m. in the meeting room of the Center and runners will take off at 11 a.m.

“It’s a great run for a great cause, as the event organizers will take all the proceeds and purchase presents for needy families in the area this holiday season,” Lee said.

At the end of the day, when the vendors head home at 5 p.m., guests are encouraged to gather outside with cookies and hot cocoa provided by Davis Medical Center for the annual lighting of the Phil Gainer Community Center Christmas Tree.

“This us one of my favorite events we have all year because it means Christmas is coming,” said Lee. “This is our fourth year doing this community event and each year it gets better and better. None of this is possible without the vendors who have shown up year after year and the shoppers in the community that come to the event to check out all there is to see.”
