Purple Majesties Red Hats Gather

Submitted photo Forty-seven members of The Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats gathered at the Elks Club on Dec. 9 for their annual Christmas dinner/party. Queen Mother BJ McKenzie presided over the meeting. The event was hosted by present and past queens, including present QM BJ and past queens Charlotte Thomas, Gerri Rosencrance, Susan Channell, Candy Crawford, Debbie Pernia and Susie Ware. The evening began with appetizers and beverages; as members enjoyed a social time prior to dinner. After a short business meeting members prayed the Lord’s Prayer together then enjoyed a traditional holiday turkey dinner prepared by Brenda Teets. Ladies celebrating December birthdays were serenaded by members on their kazoos, then the traditional ’warning’ was led by Queen Mother McKenzie. Roger Ware of the USMC (Ret.) gave a short talk on how the Toys for Tots Program works. Prize tickets were drawn and members received door prizes, including a poinsettia donated by Larry Gouer of Mary’s Greenhouse. Ticket sales for the lap quilt were finalized and the lucky winner is Kit Phillips. The next Purple Majesties gathering will be at the New China Cook Restaurant on Jan. 13.
