ELKINS -- Five more candidates filed to run for Randolph County offices in the 2020 election over the course of this week, bringing the total to 20 after the second week of the filing period.
George Michael Riggleman and Steve Currence filed to join the race for the Tygart District seat on the Randolph County Commission seat on Friday. Riggleman previously ran for a county commission seat in 2014.
Riggleman and Currence are set to join incumbent Chris See, current Randolph County Sheriff Mark Brady, who is ineligible to run for another consecutive term in his current office after serving two terms, and local businessman Christopher Pudder in the race for the Tygart District county commission seat.
Former Randolph County Board of Education member Harvey Taylor filed to run for the Tygart District seat on the board and is set to run against incumbent Amanda Smith during the 2020 election, while incumbent Rachel Anger is running for reelection for her Elkins District seat.
Leon Mallow filed for the office of Randolph County surveyor, while James Daniel Dean filed to run for conservation district supervisor.
Additional filings from last week include:
• Rob Elbon, who recently resigned from his position as a Randolph County magistrate, former sheriff Jack D. Roy, Jr., former Chief Deputy Jeffrey "Jim" Webley, and John K. Miller in the race for Randolph County Sheriff.
• Michele Hommema VanMeter and Tracy Harper for Randolph County Magistrate Judge in Division I, a position which had been held by Elbon.
• Current Magistrate Mike Dyer for Randolph County magistrate judge in Division II.
• Incumbent Ben Shepler for Randolph County magistrate judge in Division III.
• Incumbent Michael Parker for the office of Randolph County prosecuting attorney.
• Incumbent Phyllis Yokum for the office of Randolph County assessor.
The Randolph County Clerk's Office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon today for the last day of the filing period.
Write-in candidate deadlines are March 20 for the primary election and Sept. 25 for the general election. West Virginia's primary election is set for May 12, while the general election will be Nov. 3.
