Kesling serving as new commission president

ELKINS -- A new Randolph County Commission president was appointed at Thursday's regular meeting.
Commissioner David Kesling was unanimously approved to serve as president of the Randolph County Commission throughout 2020 by fellow Commissioners Mark Scott and Chris See.
Prior to Thursday's vote, Scott took an opportunity to thank county employees for his time as president in 2019.
"I just want to thank everyone for all their support. It's been a great year as commission president. I've really enjoyed the opportunity and the experiences that I've gained from working as commission president," said Scott.
"We've got a great team we've put together, and we're looking forward to supporting David in his role as commission president for the new year," Scott said, adding that he thinks the commission will accomplish much over the course of the year.
Kesling initially defeated 11-year incumbent Mike Taylor for the Cheat District seat on the commission in what was considered by some to be the most highly contested Randolph County primary of 2018, winning by more than 1,000 votes.
In the primary, Kesling, a local businessman, received 2,591 votes, which accounted for 68.08 percent of the vote, while Taylor followed with 1,215 votes, accounting for the remaining 31.92 percent.
Four years prior to running for his commission seat, Kesling served as a member of the Randolph County Board of Education from 2010 to 2014.
The next regular meeting of the Randolph County Commission is set to occur at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in the James Cain Courthouse Annex.
