ELKINS -- An Elkins woman is accused of illegally using another person's ATM card.
Michelle Lea Hawkins, 22, is charged with three felony counts of fraud. A total bond for the three charges was set at $18,000 by Randolph County Magistrate Mike Dyer.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Trooper R.C. Watson of the Elkins detachment of the West Virginia State Police, an Elkins resident reported that he had left his ATM card in a local ATM, and "when he went back to the ATM to retrieve his card … it was gone."
The alleged victim said he and his wife later discovered Facebook transactions, which included four names, on their bank statement. He also found transactions on his bank card that neither he nor his wife had authorized, including a transaction at the Elkins Walmart store, the complaint states.
A Walmart surveillance video showed a woman, identified as Hawkins, attempting to use the alleged victim's ATM card to purchase several items, according to the complaint.
If convicted, Hawkins could face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
