ELKINS -- Ambassador Baptist Church in Elkins will be hosting a pepperoni roll and macaroni and cheese sale fundraiser on Monday, Feb. 24.
Mike House, of Ambassador Ministries, says that this meal is "as good as school lunch."
Ambassador Ministries primarily provides clothing and goods to those in need in the Elkins area.
"We'll give household items, clothing and furniture to families that are struggling or that are homeless. We gave 250 coats away this past fall and we give blankets away all winter," explained House.
"Typically we do (fundraisers) for a specific purpose and in this case, we're focusing mainly on a downpayment for the warehouse we're going to be purchasing and that's what this is primarily for," said House. "We're building a new church building too but in this case today this particular sale is for the warehouse."
House wants to put a downpayment on the warehouse of $20,000.
"We really need to expand, we've outgrown this building. It's packed," he said.
The ministry frequently assists victims of house fires or even those who recently acquired housing and now need silverware, lamps and other odds and ends for their home. "
It's an outreach ministry and a lot of folks' churches and organizations know we're here. They send folks our way that they know are in need," said House.
"We ship to third-world countries too, so the merchandise that we don't use locally is still used in ministry," he said.
"We send them through a broker out of Atlanta, Georgia to Africa and South America and different places like that. Everything is used to help people either locally first of all and then overseas."
The ministry also hosts a small, inexpensive thrift store for some of their goods to help offset the costs of the building and pay the bills.
"We're really dependent on donations and people financially helping us," said House.
Included in the lunch will be a 3-ounce pepperoni roll, macaroni and cheese, a brownie and a Pepsi product for $7. With two pepperoni rolls, the price is $8.
Orders for the fundraiser lunch need to be placed by Friday, Feb. 21. On Monday, Feb. 24, those who placed orders are invited to enjoy their lunch, starting at 11 a.m., at the Ambassador Baptist Church, or they may request a delivery. To order, call House at 304-704-7498.
∫ House would also like to announce to the public that there have been 'scammers' asking individuals, businesses and organizations for money in his name.
"If somebody approaches you using our name or church, please call me to verify it," he said.
