ELKINS -- A Coalton man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing almost $4,000 in personal property from a cabin.
Ryan Neil Coberly, 29, is charged with burglary and grand larceny. Coberly's bond was set at $20,000 by Randolph County Magistrate Judge Mike Dyer.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Corporal D.R. Wolford, Jr. of the West Virginia State Police, on August 28, officers were notified of a burglary at a cabin on Shavers Fork Road near Bowden.
The report states that officers spoke with an alleged victim, who advised that someone had broken into his cabin and outbuildings--attempting to steal his Massey Ferguson, which was then stuck in the mud.
According to Wolford, officers observed pry marks and a busted lock on one of the cabin's windows.
"The cabin was ransacked, and items (were) thrown about," stated Wolford.
The report states that officers observed a water proofing bag with a sledge hammer and bolt cutters inside it, which the alleged victim advised "were most certainly not his" or his family's belongings.
According to the complaint, the total value of the property stolen from the cabin was approximately $3,395.
On Feb. 21, Wolford received a copy of a WVSP forensic laboratory report, which detailed a forensic examination of the bolt cutters, sledge hammer and water proofing bag, which revealed Coberly's right palm print on the bolt cutters.
