Karnes, Campbell to meet in general election

ELKINS — Robert Karnes defeated incumbent John “J.R.” Pitsenbarger for the Republican nomination for the 11th Senatorial District seat Tuesday evening, and will now face Democrat Denise Campbell in the November general election.

Statewide, Karnes received 7,683 votes, or 54.07%, Tuesday, with Pitsenbarger garnering 6,526 votes, or 45.93%.

On the Democratic side, Campbell, who ran unopposed, received 10,468 votes Tuesday.

Karnes, of Tallmansville, held the 11th district seat from January 2015 until 2018.

Pitsenbarger, of Mount Nebo, was appointed in October 2019 to serve the remainder of Greg Boso’s term, after Boso’s resignation.

Campbell, of Elkins, served consecutively from January 2011 until January 2013 in the District 37 House of Delegates seat.

The general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
