ELKINS -- Two familiar faces won their primary reelection bid to represent the 43rd District in the West Virginia House of Delegates Tuesday evening.
Incumbents Cody Thompson and Bill Hartman will both move ahead to the general election in November, where they will face off against Republicans William "Ty" Nestor and Mark Rennix.
"I want to thank everyone for getting out to vote," Thompson said Tuesday evening. "I want to thank everyone that came out to support me. I will continue to work hard for the district."
Hartman said this was his 10th time on the ballot running for the 43rd District and said this year has been the most challenging due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
"I think this was the most nerve-wracking," Hartman said. "Campaigning in the time of COVID-19 was a challenge."
The 43rd District consists of Randolph and Pocahontas counties and both seats are up for election this fall.
On the Democratic ticket, Thompson, with 3,614 votes, and Hartman, with 2,903 votes, topped challenger Phil Isner, who garnered 2,240.
On the Republican ticket, Nestor received 2,955 votes, and Mark Rennix garnered 2,072 votes.
In Randolph County, on the Republican ticket, Nestor received 2,151 votes and Rennix took in 1,447 votes. On the Democratic ballot, Thompson received 3,014 votes; Hartman took in 2,184; and Isner received 1,823.
In Pocahontas County, on the Republican ticket, Nestor received 804 votes and Rennix took in 625 votes. On the Democratic ballot, Thompson received 600 votes; Hartman took in 719; and Isner received 417.
The top two vote-getters in the Nov. 3 general election will win the two seats.
