BUCKHANNON -- A man was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital Sunday afternoon after wrecking his motorcycle.
The name of the motorcyclist had not been released and the investigating officer, Cpl. V.J. Pyles of the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police, was not available Monday.
A press release stated that at about 12:30 p.m. Pyles had just observed two motorcycles traveling south on Route 20 at a high rate of speed in front of the Buckhannon detachment when he was dispatched to a wreck .3 miles south of the detachment. A man was found injured along the roadside.
An investigation showed that the motorcycle was traveling south and lost control in a sharp right-hand turn, skidded 106 feet into the opposing lane of travel and stuck a ditch on the left roadway edge. The man was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest in a wooded area along the roadside, police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital at 2:26 p.m. after life-saving measures failed. No other vehicles were involved. Speed was a factor in the crash, according to the press release.
