Motorcycle rider killed in crash

VALLEY BEND -- A Randolph County man died following a two-vehicle accident early Thursday morning in Valley Bend, police said.

The Elkins detachment of the West Virginia State Police reported that Eddie Cottel, 72, of Valley Bend, died at Davis Medical Center after a crash involving his 2005 Honda Goldwing Motorcycle.

Police said that a truck traveling southbound on the U.S. Route 219 at approximately 5:50 a.m. pulled into the path of Cottel's motorcycle while turning into the Par Mar convenience store.

State Police said that heavy fog contributed to the accident.

The Tygarts Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Randolph County Emergency Squad responded to the scene.
