SCHERR -- Two people died and another was transported by helicopter following a single-vehicle crash on Route 93 in Grant County.
Chief Deputy S.L. Wratchford responded to the call on Aug. 12 just below Dam Site Road, according to a press release from the Grant County Sheriff's Department.
"Upon arriving on scene, the driver, Seth Elijah Workman, of Kesyer, was being loaded into an ambulance and was being taken to the landing zone to be flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital due to being ejected from the vehicle," it states in the release. "Workman was operating a 1995 Toyota Tercel with a juvenile female in the front seat and Tucker Weed, of Keyser, was found seated in the rear seat."
Preliminary observation indicated the car was being operated at a high rate of speed, and Workman ran off the edge of the road way, loosing control and going airborne from the roadway, the release states.
The vehicle hit the ground a short distance away and flipped over, striking a tree and ejecting Workman through the windshield. Both occupants left in the car were killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
Assisting at the scene were the West Virginia State Police, New Creek EMS, Maysville EMS, Petersburg EMS, Maysville and New Creek volunteer fire departments. A medivac helicopter from the Maryland State Police. also responded to the scene.
