ELKINS --The FBI has joined the investigation into the two bank robberies that have occurred this year at the Beverly branch of Citizens Bank.
"The Randolph County Sheriff's Office is still conducting the investigation on the bank robbery earlier in this year and the most recent," Randolph County Sheriff Mark Brady told The Inter-Mountain Thursday. "We have partnered with the FBI, and the Mountain Region Violent Crime and Drug Task force is helping investigate."
The bank was robbed on Feb. 7 at approximately 9:50 a.m. The suspect was believed to be a white male wearing a black toboggan (possibly Carhart) with a facemask, a camouflage coat, black hoodie, light colored jeans and work boots. According to the sheriff's office, a dark-colored small SUV was discovered on surveillance video in the area of the bank and departing through the cemetery in Beverly during the time frame of the robbery.
The second robbery was on Aug. 6 at around 1 p.m. Authorities described the suspect as a white male wearing a baseball cap with a white or light-colored Under Armour logo, a black facemask, sunglasses, a yellow safety vest with orange and reflective stripes, a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and gray tennis shoes. A vehicle of interest was identified as a 2007-2013 Chevrolet crew cab pickup truck, burgundy in color, with tow mirrors, black fender flares and a black or missing Chevrolet emblem on the front grill, the release states.
"We are looking at the possibility they are related, but we are still investigating," Brady said Thursday. "It has been a very time-consuming and labor-intensive investigation."
Authorities have not released the amount of money taken during either robbery.
