ELKINS -- The Rotary Club of Elkins will hold an Irish Road Bowling competition Saturday on the Georgetown Road close to the spillway.
All proceeds for the event will benefit Rotary's "End Polio Now" campaign.
"Rotary has been involved in trying to eradicate polio for 35 years," said Elkins Rotary Club Vice President Jessica Sutton. "Typically our club would take some money it raised throughout the year and donate it to this cause. But because of COVID we haven't been able to hold any other fundraisers.
"So we felt this would be a good opportunity, because people who usually participate in the Forest Festival road bowling event were missing it. And we thought it would be a safe alternative with it being outdoors," Sutton said.
All Mountain State Forest Festival events were canceled for this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
All equipment for the competition will be provided and the event is scheduled to get under way at 1:30 p.m. There is a cost for teams to participate.
Teams are encouraged to pre-register and can do so by calling Jessica Sutton at 304-614-5337. Pre-registration is not required, though, and can be done before the start of bowling at 12:30 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams and there will be a long ball competition at the end of the event. An after party will be offered at the Big Timber Brewing Company in Elkins at the conclusion of bowling. Big Timber will donate $1 to the cause for every pint that is purchased at the post-event gathering.
