ELKINS --Two Elkins residents are facing charges after they allegedly took items from a Second Street Apartment.
Joseph Austin, 35, and Keyder Woodcock, 28, both of Elkins are both being charged with a felony count of burglary. Randolph County Magistrate George Riggleman set bond for Austin and Woodcock at $25,000 cash only.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court by Elkins Police Department Senior Patrolman K.A. Shiflett, on Oct. 5 the officer was flagged down in the area of 220 Second Street in Elkins in reference to a burglary. The alleged victim told officers that some time between 8 p.m. on Oct 4 and 2 p.m. on Oct. 5, someone had broken into their apartment. The alleged victim said all the items inside the residence that was stolen belonged to them and the other resident at the apartment.
According to the complaint, the alleged victim advised that the total value of the stolen property being $5,042.
"At which time this officer made contact with Holland Enterprise and Seneca Realty to determine if they had any video surveillance of the burglary," Shiflett writes in the complaint.
According to the complaint, Shiflett reviewed the video on Oct. 9 and observed Woodcock coming to the door of the apartment and then walking away, then returning to "use what appears to be a card to 'jimmy' the door lock and opens the door." Woodcock then walked away and then a male subject in a blue hoodie and jeans along with Keyder, who changed his coat, went inside the apartment.
"Keyder (Woodcock) exits the apartment with what appears to be a leather footlocker," the complaint states. "The male subject in the blue hoodie comes out of the apartment carrying a red bag. The pair return and remove a large antique chest from the apartment and again later a subject identified as Austin and another male subject enter the apartment. Austin leaves the apartment removing what appears to be a grey bag."
