Six inmates injured during incident at HCC
HUTTONSVILLE — An incident at Huttonsville Correctional center left several inmates injured with two being transported from the facility by helicopter.
According to a police report, six inmates at the Huttonsville Correctional Center were injured after an assault incident on Saturday afternoon. At approximately 2:14 p.m. Saturday, a request for an ambulance and law enforcement was requested from Huttonsville Correctional Center. Once on scene, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department was made aware of multiple injuries after an altercation between inmates inside a cell block.
Five inmates were transported outside of HCC for medical attention with three being treated at Davis Medical Center. Two other inmates were sent to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown by helicopter and one was treated at HCC’s infirmary.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department is heading the investigation and working with the Department of Corrections to determine the perpetrators and the cause of the altercation.
The West Virginia State Police assisted the sheriff’s department on scene.
The Huttonsville Correctional Center is located near Huttonsville in Randolph County, approximately 18 miles south of Elkins on U.S. Route 250. It was created by an act of the Legislature in 1937 to relieve overcrowding at the West Virginia Penitentiary.
Randolph County Sheriff Mark Brady said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
