BUCKHANNON -- A man who allegedly threatened a former ex-girlfriend before stealing her cell phone and cash has been arrested.
Christopher Wayne Cochran, 42, of Buckhannon, was arrested for domestic battery, destruction of property and petit larceny, all misdemeanors.
On Oct. 24, Trooper J.S. Tonkin with the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police, was contacted by the victim who advised she left her residence on Bargerhuff Road and began heading towards downtown Buckhannon on Saul's Run Road, according to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk's office. When the victim came to the intersection of Route 33 and Saul's Run Road, the victim advised her ex-boyfriend, Cochran, reached inside of her vehicle and unlocked the doors and grabbed the victim. Cochran allegedly told the victim, "If I ever see you with another man I will shoot you."
The victim alleged that Cochran struck her vehicle backup monitor with a closed fit causing damage and took her Samsung Galaxy phone valued at $645 and about $30 to $40 from her cash before leaving the scene.
The victim also told the state trooper she had not been in a relationship with Cochran for seven to eight years.
Magistrate Mike Coffman set bond at $20,000 and ordered Cochran to have no contact with the victim.
If convicted, Cochran faces up to one year and/or fined not to exceed $2,500 for petit larceny; up to a year in jail and up to a $500 fine for destruction of property and up to a year in jail and/or up to a $500 fine for domestic battery first offense.
