ELKINS -- The City of Elkins has reappointed City Clerk Jessica Sutton and given her a raise of $6,000 per year.
Elkins City Council set Sutton's new compensation rate at $54,000 per year and reappointed her for another two-year term during a recent council meeting.
"Madame Chairman, it gives me great honor to recommend the approval of Resolution 1364," Second Ward Councilman Charlie Friddle stated at the meeting.
All 10 council members voted to approve the resolution.
"Thank you very much for your support," Sutton said after the vote.
Sutton has been paid $48,000 per year during her current term.
The City of Elkins also provided The Inter-Mountain with the current salaries of the city's other administrative officers:
• Operations Manager Bob Pingley is paid $60,000 per year.
• Police Chief Travis Bennett is paid $55,000 per year.
• Fire Chief Tom Meader is paid $55,000 per year.
• City Treasurer Tracy Judy is paid $54,000 per year.
The City of Elkins also released the salary rates for the city clerk position over the past 10 years.
In December 2010, Elkins City Council voted to pay then-clerk Phil Graziani $51,576 per year.
In December 2012, council voted to pay then-clerk Sutton Stokes $39,520 per year.
Council voted in December 2014 to raise Stokes' pay to $52,500 per year.
When Sutton was appointed city clerk in May 2016, council set her salary at $42,00 per year.
Council voted to raise Sutton's pay to $45,000 per year in December 2016.
In December 2018, council voted to raise Sutton's salary to $48,000 per year.
Elkins City Code stipulates that council appoint a city clerk in December of each even year for a term of two years.
Sutton's new term will begin Jan. 1.
The next Elkins City Council meeting will be conducted online via Zoom at 7 p.m. Jan. 7.
