CHARLESTON -- Gov. Jim Justice has announced nearly $400,000 in funding for projects in Tucker, Upshur and Barbour counties, along with grants that will aid other local counties.
Justice announced awarded a total of $4,120,000 in West Virginia Statewide Implementation, Enhancement, and Evaluation Projects (SIEEP) grant funds to 15 projects. These funds will be used to expand technology-assisted treatment and prevention services throughout the state.
"These grants are going to provide access to incredible telehealth and mental health opportunities for countless West Virginians," Justice said. "These services have never been more important than they've been this year with all of the challenges we've faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I'm so proud to be able to award these much-needed funds to several programs and organizations that are going to make a true difference improving the health and lives of people all across the state."
Local awards included $150,000 to the Tucker County Commission, with the funding to be "utilized to establish a telehealth receiving site in Tucker County."
A total of $120,000 was awarded to the Upshur County Commission for establishing telehealth receiving sites in Upshur and Lewis counties.
An award of $110,000 was granted to West Virginia Prevention Solutions, Inc. to be used to expand prevention services and activities in Barbour County.
Harmony Behavioral Health, Inc. was granted $600,000 to be utilized to establish a telehealth broadcasting site providing services to Upshur, Boone, Braxton, Brooke, Calhoun, Clay, Gilmer, Hancock, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Marshall, Mingo, Monongalia, Ohio, Tucker, Tyler, Webster, Wetzel and Wirt counties.
A $450,000 grant to Horizon Behavioral Health, PLLC will be utilized to establish a telehealth broadcasting site providing services to Tucker, Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Monongalia, Ohio, Tucker, Tyler and Wetzel counties.
A $300,000 grant to the Jefferson Day Report Center, Inc. will be utilized to establish a telehealth broadcasting site providing services to Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, Pendleton, and Preston counties.
Statewide, the West Virginia State Police was awarded a $1 million grant to expand the West Virginia Handle with Care (HWC) Program.
The funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, and are administered by the Justice and Community Services section of the West Virginia Division of Administrative Services.
Funds were also awarded to the following:
-- A grant of $200,000 went to Community Connections, Inc. to be utilized to expand prevention services and activities in McDowell, Webster and Wyoming counties.
The Hampshire County Commission received a $130,000 grant to be utilized to establish telehealth receiving sites in Hampshire, Hardy and Pendleton counties.
-- A $130,000 grant to the Marshall County Commission will be utilized to establish telehealth receiving sites in Marshall, Brooke, Hancock, Ohio, Wetzel, and Tyler counties.
-- The Mineral County Commission received a $65,000 to be utilized to establish telehealth receiving sites in Mineral and Grant counties.
-- A $65,000 grant to the Monongalia County Commission will be utilized to establish a telehealth receiving site in Monongalia County.
-- Prestera Center for Mental Health Services, Inc. received a $400,000 grant to be utilized to expand prevention services and activities in Logan, Boone, Clay and Lincoln counties.
-- The Preston County Commission received a $150,000 grant to be utilized to establish a telehealth receiving site in Preston County.
