Local business gives to United Way’s Workplace Campaign

ELKINS -- As part of United Way of Randolph County's annual fundraising efforts, businesses in the area are making contributions through United Way's Workplace Campaign.

Karrah Washington, executive director for United Way of Randolph County, said the workplace campaign gives employees in the area an opportunity to give back to their community by contributing financially to United Way partners.

Washington said the Elkins UPS facility makes a contribution to the campaign annually, adding the facility's employee contribution for the 2021 campaign is $6,000.

Dave Redmon, business manager for the Elkins and Parkersburg UPS facilities, said local UPS employees enjoy giving back to the communities they serve.

"We deliver to the communities, so we are happy to give back to the communities that we serve," Redmon said. "A lot of the community are not only customers but they are friends of ours, too, so giving back makes us feel good."

Zackery Watson, supervisor for the Elkins UPS Center, echoed Redmon, adding drivers enjoy being able to choose the organization that their donation will benefit.

"Giving to United Way is very beneficial to our community, and what really drives our contributions is being able to donate to specific organizations within the county," Watson said. "The majority of our drivers donate, and what they really like the most is being able to say 'My contribution is going to go to the Randolph County Humane Society or the Elkins Library,' or whichever organization they choose."

Watson also noted several drivers from the Elkins UPS facility have been donating to United Way's annual campaign for more than 20 years.

Washington explained each business receives a list of United Way's partners before the workplace campaign begins.

"This ensures what they are giving is actually staying here and not only staying here, but going specifically where they want it to," Washington said.

The United Way of Randolph County currently serves 16 partner agencies in the local area, and the organization's goal for its 2021 campaign is $100,000.
