Thompson appointed to leadership roles

Thompson

CHARLESTON — A Randolph County delegate has been appointed to key leadership positions in state House of Delegates committees.

Cody Thompson, D-43rd District, will serve as the Minority Vice Chair of the House Committee on Education and the Minority Chair of the Committee on Education and the Minority Chair of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Thompson has also been named an Assistant Minority Whip for the 85th Legislature.

“I am grateful that Delegate Thompson will serve in these leadership roles,” House Minority Leader Doug Skaff Jr., who appointed Thompson to these positions. “As an educator in Randolph County, he is uniquely qualified to see the education and technology needs for our students, schools and communities.

“His input will be valuable to these committees, and I look forward to working with him as the 85th Legislature gets underway.”

“I appreciate the confidence that Minority Leader Skaff has placed in me,” Thompson said. “Strengthening our education system, supporting our educators and ensuring that all West Virginians have access to affordable, reliable broadband are critical to moving our state forward.

“I look forward to serving in these roles and working for the people of my district and the state of West Virginia.”

The House Committee on Education “focuses on public and higher education issues,” a Thompson press release stated. “The work of this Committee will be even more important this session as lawmakers look at how education has delivered in West Virginia over the past year and work to improve access and the quality of our education system.

“The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure will focus on issues relating to the transportation system and roadways here in West Virginia; the deployment, expansion, regulation and other matters related to public utility services and the internet; and all matters related to the use and expansion of technology in or by the state,” the release reads.
