Woman faces more felonies from pursuit

ELKINS -- A Mill Creek woman who allegedly led police on a high-speed chase Tuesday afternoon is now facing additional felony charges.

Stevie Drew Fox, 33, who is currently incarcerated in the Tygarts Valley Regional Jail on cash-only bonds totaling $80,000, is now facing charges of fleeing in a vehicle while DUI (controlled substance) and grand larceny, in addition to a charge of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference. The bonds were set by Randolph County Magistrate Mike Dyer.

Corporal E.B. Carr of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant for medical records at Davis Medical Center related to Tuesday's incident. Based on the medical records, a drug screen of Fox was completed and indicated a positive result for amphetamine/methamphetamine, police said. Fox was in law enforcement custody from the time she was apprehended until the test was conducted.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. Tuesday morning, 911 dispatch received a stolen rental vehicle call in the Mill Creek area. Deputy Pingley was in the area and responded to the call, according to police. The caller stated that she rented a white 2016 Nissan Sentra with West Virginia registration and that she had given Fox a ride to her residence on Channell Road on Monday night.

The car was left running to keep the vehicle warm and both excited the car and entered the residence, the caller allegedly told police. Fox then allegedly went outside and got back inside the vehicle and took off in the car without permission.

The caller said she tried running after the vehicle but was unable to catch up to it as Fox sped away.

The caller then had to walk until she regained cell service and got a ride to begin looking for the car, police said. She spent the next few hours attempting to locate the vehicle and Fox. When she was unable to locate either, she called 911.

The caller and Pingley both attempted to locate Fox and the car Tuesday morning but were unable to find either. Pingley contacted Valley Rent-a-Car to inform the owner that the vehicle was going to be reported stolen, police said. Pingley took a statement from the renter of the car and informed the next shift of officers.

The vehicle was spotted the next day at Fox's Lumber by the renter. She confronted Fox, who allegedly struck the renter with the vehicle in the parking lot, police said. Less than a half hour later Sheriff Rob Elbon located the vehicle and the high-speed pursuit began.

The pursuit continued, at speeds of up to 120 mph, through Mill Creek and into Huttonsville. When the vehicle ran out of gas Fox allegedly brawled with officers, striking and kicking and spitting at them as they tried to remove her from the vehicle, police said.

The value of the vehicle, according to Kelley Blue Book, is approximately $5,096, making the theft a felony, according to police.

The fleeing in a vehicle while DUI (controlled substance) charge carries a sentence three to 10 years in a state correctional facility. The grand larceny charge carries a sentence of one to 10 in prison.
