Centers Against Violence offers 20th annual Healing Through Music

ELKINS -- Centers Against Violence held the 20th annual Healing Through Music Event in Elkins to draw attention to Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The event was offered at the Elkins Railyard Depot as several musical performers and speakers took to the Rotary Amphitheater Stage in Elkins Town Square.

The concert featured a host of different styles of musical performers, some of whom are survivors of assault and domestic violence themselves.

Also on hand were several inspiring guest speakers. Contact information was given out to those who need help. Centers Against Violence set up a table with different types of readings about violence and abuse.

Centers Against Violence offers a safe haven and planning to help individuals get out of dangerous situations. There are currently 14 domestic violence shelters in the state of West Virginia.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM) is a time to recognize that we each play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in our communities.

National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) a time to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities on how to prevent it.

Sexual violence and child abuse are major public health, human rights and social justice issues. Officials insist everyone's help is needed to end it.
