Departments battle apartment blaze

ADRIAN -- Multiple fire departments were called to help fight an afternoon blaze that gutted an apartment building in Upshur County Thursday.

The State Fire Marshal's Office will investigate the cause of the fire in the apartment building, where 13 building were living, officials said. No injuries were reported but one elderly woman had to be rescued and a pet died in the blaze.

The building was fully involved in flames when first responders arrived, officials said.

The effort to fight the fire resulted in Route 20 being shut down for several hours Thursday afternoon.

All Upshur County firefighters were called in to battle the fire, and the Elkins Fire Department also responded to the scene.
