ELKINS -- A possible threat on social media led to law enforcement making an early morning visit to Elkins Middle School on Tuesday.
According to a release sent out by the City of Elkins Tuesday afternoon, the Elkins Police Department was made aware of a possible threat against Elkins Middle School. The threat was apparently made through a social media platforms.
Elkins Police Department officers contacted the students mentioned in the post as they arrived at school in the morning. The report states there is no current threat to the school.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing by the Elkins Police Department.

∫ According to the most recent update provided by Randolph County Schools, two schools in the county have reported active COVID-19 cases.
Beverly Elementary School and Elkins High School both had one case each, according to the update provided by Randolph County Schools on Friday.
The previous report, on April 30, listed one active case at that time among Randolph County schools, at Elkins Middle School.
On Monday, Bonnie Woodrum, the Randolph-Elkins Health Department's infectious disease specialist, told The Inter-Mountain that, among the county's 53 active COVID-19 cases, only three are about 50 years old.
"We also have a 1-year-old, a 3-year-old, a 9-year-old, and an 11-year-old. And we also have an 18 year-old that went to one of the proms this past weekend on Saturday," Woodrum said.
∫ Also on Tuesday, Upshur County Schools issued the following press release:
"Upshur County Schools received confirmation from the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department regarding a positive COVID-19 case that impacted two classrooms at Union Elementary School.
" The Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department will be working closely with Upshur County Schools to identify persons who have had close contact with them including students, staff, family members, and friends.
"Those who need to be quarantined will be contacted by the health department. Immediate notification will be made while maintaining confidentiality when a close contact is confirmed and communicated to Upshur County Schools. Please understand that contact tracing and testing take time and that there are levels of contact: low, medium, and high.
"Our students and staff have done a great job wearing masks and social distancing at school in order to help prevent exposure. We will continue to take appropriate action working with and under the guidance of health officials to protect the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
"To keep our schools open to our children, it will take our entire community following established COVID-19 protocol including hand washing, facial covering use, social distancing, and proper hygiene. We appreciate your on-going support and commitment to the health of Upshur County."
∫ A vaccination clinic will be held at the Rotary Amphitheater in Elkins Town Square on Thursday. No appointment is necessary and the event is open to the public. A free hot dog meal will be served in conjunction with the clinic, which will take place from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.
