Spring concert scheduled at Town Square

By Edgar Kelley 2 min read

ELKINS -- The Highland Parish United Methodist Church is sponsoring a spring concert Saturday at The Rotary Amphitheater in Elkins Town Square.

The concert will feature the gospel Christian group Westward Road, now touring in support of their new album "Love Has Won." They're currently contesting for Top 10 New Band of the Year honors.

"What a nice way to get mom out after taking her out to dinner for Mother's Day weekend," said Paul Thompson, who is a pastor at three different Methodist churches in Randolph County. "It looks like the weather is going to be good so it should be a really nice evening to get out and listen to some great music."

There is no charge and the public is invited to attend the concert, which will get under way at 7 p.m.

If everything goes well with the show, Thompson said the church may try to book the amphitheater each Saturday before Mother's Day and make it an annual event.

"We'd like this to continue on with this to where we could possibly get a top tier band to play on this weekend every year," he said. "We'd like to make this something we do every year, not just a one time thing. Hopefully we can do more events like this if we see people are responsive."

Westward Road provides a unique blend of gospel and modern worship music. They are a dynamic family trio led by Scott Roberts, a 20-year veteran worship leader and national charting songwriter. He is joined by his wife, Kelli, who is an award winning vocalist. Rounding out the group is the couples son, Garrett, a superbly smooth vocalist.

The band has performed for audiences in both large theaters and intimate settings in rural churches. They have also played at many festivals and fairs across the United States. Their new take on gospel music along with their smooth family harmonies will have audiences of all ages falling in love with this fun and energetic trio.
