48 indicted by Randolph grand jury
ELKINS — A Randolph County grand jury indicted 48 individuals Monday, including a woman indicted for attempted murder.
Catherine Alexis Briggs, 21, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of attempted first degree murder and four counts of child abuse creating substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury, felonies.
According to a Dec. 18, 2020 press release by Elkins Police Department Chief Travis Bennett, “This afternoon Elkins Police Department officers responded to the alley between S. Davis Avenue and S. Railroad Avenue for a report of a female subject attempting to drown a child in a water puddle.
“Prior to officers’ arrival, bystanders and City of Elkins sanitation employees were able to pull the suspect off the child and remove the child to safety,” Bennett said in the press release. “The child was transported to Davis Medical Center by EPD” and later released.
When two EPD officers attempted to contact Briggs, 20, she reportedly charged at them, and was tased, restrained and placed under arrest, an EPD press release states.
Other individuals indicted on Monday include:
Patrick Allen Hillery, 30, of Kingwood, was indicted on one count of malicious assault and one count of offense committed by inmate, both felonies.
Jeffrey Allan Barb, 67, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of operating or attempting to operate clandestine drug laboratories, one count of manufacturing or possession with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, and one count of possession of fentanyl, all felonies, and one count of driving under the influence, a misdemeanor.
Nathan Mark Lewis, 37, of Belington, was indicted on one count of transportation of controlled substances onto the grounds of a correctional facility, one count of delivery of a controlled substance and one count of offense committed by inmate, all felonies.
Joshua Jesse White, 40, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of possession of a controlled substance by inmate, one count of offense committed by inmate, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Phillip Grant Boyles, 34, of Kerens, was indicted on one count of possession of a controlled substance by inmate, one count of offense committed by inmate and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Dustin Don Morrison, 26, of Marlinton, was indicted on two counts of transportation of controlled substances onto the grounds of a correctional facility, two counts of attempted delivery of contraband to an inmate, two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Clinton Dale McCauley, 30, an inmate at Huttonsville Correctional Center, was indicted on two counts of attempted possession of a controlled substance by inmate, two counts of offense committed by inmate, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Craig Allen Stimson, 42, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on two counts of attempted possession of a controlled substance by inmate, two counts of offense committed by inmate, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Joseph William Howell, Jr., 30, of Elkins, was indicted on two counts of attempted possession of a controlled substance by inmate, two counts of offense committed by inmate, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Stephen Wayne Nichols, 28, of Huntington, was indicted on two counts of attempted possession of a controlled substance by inmate, two counts of offense committed by inmate, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Holly Renae Satterfield, 29, an inmate at Lakin Correctional Center, was indicted on two counts of transportation of controlled substances onto the grounds of a correctional facility, two counts of attempted delivery of contraband to an inmate, two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Sabrina Lena Sutherland, 38, of Coalton, was indicted on two counts of transportation of controlled substances onto the grounds of a correctional facility, two counts of attempted delivery of contraband to an inmate, two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Joshua Scott Pierce, 36, of Belington, was indicted on one count of threats of terrorist acts, all felonies.
Timothy Stephen Hudler, 40, of Beverly, was indicted on four counts of delivery of a controlled substance, a felony.
Jake Morgan Godwin, 40, of Kerens, was indicted on two counts of delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, a felony.
Donald Dewayne Simmons, 49, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on five counts of delivery of a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Christina Lorraine Simmons, 48, of Elkins, was indicted on six counts of delivery of a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, both felonies.
Jason William Hebb, 40, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of delivery of a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, both felonies.
Jeffery Lynn Moore, 59, of Elkins, was indicted on three counts of delivery of a controlled substance, a felony.
Donna Marie Lanham, 44, of Norton, was indicted on four counts of delivery of a controlled substance, second offense, a felony.
Matthew Douglas Witsoe, 33, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, and one count of possession of fentanyl, both felonies.
Thomas James Tomey, 33, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on four counts of delivery of a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, both felonies.
Amanda Rae Burke, 37, of Elkins, was indicted on two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, both felonies.
Kevin Lee Newsome, 25, an inmate of Huttonsville Correctional Center, was indicted on one count of offense committed by inmate, and one count of unlawful assault upon a correctional employee, both felonies.
Jason Curtis Boyd, 28, an inmate of Huttonsville Correctional Center, was indicted on two counts of possession of a controlled substance by inmate, and one count of offense committed by inmate, both felonies.
Caleb Joseph Lee Turner, 22, an inmate of Huttonsville Correctional Center, was indicted on one count of possession of a controlled substance by inmate, and one count of offense committed by inmate, both felonies.
Larry Thomas Gainer, 35, of Coalton, was indicted on one count of threats of terrorist acts, a felony.
Jennifer Dawn Cale, 36, of Masontown, was indicted on one count of transportation of controlled substances onto the grounds of a correctional facility, one count of possession of a controlled substance by inmate, and one count of offense committed by inmate, all felonies.
James Robert McDermott, Jr., 51, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, and one count of conspiracy, both felonies.
Melissa Dawn McDermott, also known as Melissa Dawn Taylor, 45, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, and one count of conspiracy, both felonies.
Christopher David Taylor, 32, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, both felonies.
Nathan Allen Frame, 32, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, and one count of grand larceny, both felonies.
Stephanie Dawn Lyons, 42, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of breaking and entering, one count of grand larceny, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies, and two counts of petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
Charles Lewis Law, 62, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of breaking and entering, one count of grand larceny, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies, and two counts of petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
In a separate and unrelated indictment, Matthew Douglas Witsoe, 33, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of possession by prohibited person of a firearm, a felony.
Dustin Willilam Vess, 40, of Elkins, was indicted on two counts of fraudulent use of an access device, a felony, and one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
Brian Keith Wilson, 37, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on four counts of burglary, a felony, and one count of grand larceny, both felonies.
Victor Leon Shannon, 50, of Dailey, was indicted on one count of possession by prohibited person of a firearm, and one count of possession of a controlled substance by inmate, both felonies.
Shalae Brooke Studer, 30, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of possession by prohibited person of a firearm, a felony, and one count of possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
Matthew William Heaster, 39, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of burglary, a felony, and one count of malicious assault, all felonies.
Jonathan Dwight Nelson, 36, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony.
Melissa Dawn Lloyd, 45, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of burglary, one count of grand larceny, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Lora Lynn McCauley, 42, of Montrose, was indicted on one count of burglary, one count of grand larceny, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Terry Talbott, 41, of Elkins, was indicted on one count of nurglary, one count of grand larceny, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Marcus Xavier Light, 24, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of bringing into this state, receiving, or disposing of property stolen in another state, and one count of attempted transferring stolen goods, both felonies.
In a separate and unrelated indictment, Thomas James Tomey, 33, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference, one count of destruction of property, both felonies, and four counts of assault upon a law enforcement officer, a misdemeanor.
In a separate and unrelated indictment, Amanda Rae Burke, 37, of Elkins, was indicted on three counts of delivery of a controlled substance, a felony.
The Randolph County grand jury will reconvene today for further presentments by the state.
Bond return for the indictments will be at 1:30 p.m. July 7 at the Randolph County Circuit Courtroom, at which time bond will be set and trial dates will be determined. An indictment is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
