PHILIPPI — As COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted, historic Adaland Mansion will host an indoor event this weekend, offering the annual Sunday Buffet.

The 23-room brick mansion, built in 1870, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has served as a tourist destination for more than 20 years.

Prepared by longtime Adaland culinarian Lucy Williamson, the Sunday Buffet menu will consist of roast beef or chicken breast entree, parsley potatoes, mixed vegetables, green beans, salad, dinner roll and a variety of dessert options.

“Lucy is in her last summer with us, as she plans to retire soon,” Adaland Mansion executive director JoLynn Powers said.

“If people want to eat ‘Lucy’s food’ again at the mansion, they better get here soon,” she added.

Live music will also be on the menu Sunday.

“We will have live musical entertainment at the Sunday buffet,” Powers noted. “Flutist Katy McClean and acoustic guitarist John Vaughn will be performing for our guests.”

“The Sunday Buffet has three seating times of 12:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. and reservations are required,” Powers said.

Remaining reservations are limited. For more information call 304-516-1124.

Powers also praised longtime Adaland contributor Betty Carr.

“Betty is our tour guide volunteer extraordinaire,” she said. “She runs the gift shop and also helps inside the house and with so much.”

On Aug. 20 and 21, Adaland will feature a “Murder Mystery Theatre” starting at 5 p.m. each evening.

“Our murder mystery events are usually well-attended and we are already at 50 percent in reservations made,” Powers said. “The actors enjoy mingling with guests and put on a good production to entertain.”

The Adaland mansion has been restored with great attention to authenticity and features homemade brick and walnut woodwork throughout.

The Adaland property also features a barn that was built around 1850. It has also been restored and is open to the public during tour season.

Adaland also often hosts tours, weddings, receptions, anniversaries and other celebratory occasions.

Starting at $3.92/week.
