Manchin, Capito announce $3.3M for health progams

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $3,318,136 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) for two public health programs. This funding will support programs in West Virginia that seek to protect children against preventable diseases and improve West Virginia’s ability to prevent and respond to infectious diseases.

“The COVID-19 pandemic emphasized the importance of strong public health strategies to prevent and control infectious diseases to keep West Virginians safe and healthy. I am pleased HHS is investing in two programs to protect children against preventable diseases through vaccinations and to strengthen our response to infectious diseases in the Mountain State. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to keep West Virginians healthy and prepared for any public health crisis we may face,” said Senator Manchin.

“Now that the COVID-19 vaccine is widely available, we need to continue making it as easy as possible for West Virginians to receive it and increase access to other important vaccines and resources that limit the spread of infectious diseases,” Senator Capito said. “I’m glad to see HHS investing in two public health programs that will help West Virginia have greater capacity to administer vaccines to children, while providing other important health services for those in need.”
