Country Roads employees honored

ELKINS -- The West Virginia Division of Public Transit recently handed out two prestigious awards to a pair of employees from Elkins' Country Roads Transit.

Bob Arbogast and Sharon Rockwell were both honored for their hard work and dedication to Country Roads Transit, operating out of the Randolph County Senior Center in Elkins.

Arbogast, who was named 2021 Public Driver of the Year for the entire state of West Virginia, said he was humbled to receive the award. It was the second such honor that Arobgast has received. He has worked at Country Road Transit for the past three years.

"It's a huge honor because it means you're ranked No. 1 in the state for your category," Arbogast told The Inter-Mountain. "I won the award one other time with another company, but this is my first one with Country Roads Transit."

Rockwell, meanwhile, was named the state's 2021 Outstanding Transit Employee of the Year.

"It feels really good to be honored by the West Virginia Division of Public Transit," said Rockwell. "I'm happy to have received such an honor."

Rockwell, who is the fiscal officer at the Senior Center, takes care of all the billing, budgeting and payroll activities with Country Road Transit. She has been employeed at the Senior Center for the past 30 years.

Country Road Transit also picked up an Honorable Mention Award for Outstanding Community Marketing Program from the West Virginia Division of Public Transit.

Country Road Transit provides public transportation services to anyone in the region. It offers scheduled pickups and drops offs along its daily routes. It also offers special pickups and drop offs by appointment.

Country Roads offers rides anywhere along its routes for just $1.25, one way. Monthly passes are also available for purchase and drivers will pick up anyone who waves them down along their route. All vehicles ae wheelchair lift-equipped and accesible to those with disabilities. Country Roads operates Monday through Friday from 8 am. to 4 p.m.
