PHILIPPI -- Ten winners have been chosen for the 2021 Residential Lighting Contest, presented by A Covered Bridge Christmas Committee.

The Lighting Contest was one of the last items on the 2021 A Covered Bridge Christmas calendar of events.

A holiday activity that lights up the area, the residential lighting contest has grown each year since its inception in 2017.

"We thank all the residents who lit up their homes for so many of us to enjoy," a committee press release stated. "All the lights, the residential lights, the lighted trees on the Courthouse Square, and the outlined downtown buildings, brought lots of people into our town during the Christmas season."

Residents living within Philippi city limits had from early December until Dec. 21 this year to deck out their homes with lights. An anonymous group of judges drove around Philippi and chose the 10 winners for this year's contest.

The committee will be distributing the $100 contest award to each of the 10 winners.

The 2021 winners, in no ranking or order, are: Derrick and Chelsea McDowell of 326 Shearerwood Drive, Kent and Mirada Smith of 46 Carter Avenue, Melody and Jeff Gribble of 277

Hillcrest Drive, Jessica Mongold of 324 Shearerwood Drive, Erick and Kelly Bean of 161 Locust Avenue, Tammy and Greg Zimmerman of 165 Shearerwood Drive, Steve and Karla Hively of 50 Pine Drive, Johnathan Crites of 211 Maple Avenue, Justin Cummings of 417 S. Walnut Street, and Frank and Jeanie Day of Azalea Street.

The A Covered Bridge Christmas Committee offered the community and surrounding areas a full calendar of festivities after a year on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
