BEVERLY -- A Coalton man has been charged with a felony after police say he broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment and tackled her to the ground back in November of last year.

Dustin Shawn Goodwin was taken into custody on Wednesday and has been charged with burglary, entry of dwelling stemming from an incident that took place several months ago at the Beverly Manor.

Goodwin is lodged in the Tygarts Valley Regional Jail on two bonds set by Magistrate Tracy Harper, one of $15,000 and the other $300.

According to the criminal complaint, Goodwin's ex-girlfriend woke up in the middle of the night when he came through her bedroom window and lunged at her, tackling her to the ground.

The alleged victim said that Goodwin wanted money and stole her cell phone, the complaint states. She added that Goodwin became enraged while he held her down and that she began kicking the floor in hopes that the downstairs neighbors would hear her.

The complaint states Goodwin got up and went into the living room and then threatened to take a 3-year old child from the apartment. The alleged victim said she got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed a couch cushion that the defendant was holding while he was trying to advance toward her.

The alleged victim eventually chased Goodwin out of the apartment building with him still having possession of her cell phone, according to the police report. She yelled at the defendant from her bedroom window as he left the area with her phone. Witnesses downstairs heard the scuffle and came upstairs to allow the victim to use their phone and call 911.

Police examined the alleged victim's bedroom window and found it was no longer able to lock, and that the screen to the window was observed on the ground outside and damaged, the report states.

The alleged victim said Goodwin was served with a no trespassing notice from the Beverly Manor a month ago and was prohibited from being on the property, the complaint states.
