4-H Camp Pioneer is seeking donations to complete a new restroom and shower facility at its location. The organization has already raised most of the money for the project and a substantial amount of the work has been completed.
BEVERLY -- An ongoing project at 4-H Camp Pioneer that will benefit both residents and visitors of Randolph County is currently seeking donations to help complete the construction.
The organization has raised $240,000 of the $320,000 to construct a new restroom and shower facility at the camp. A heavy chunk of the project is already completed but money is needed to finish off the construction and get the new amenities functional.
The new structure will feature two family restrooms, plus a men and women's facility. There will be four total showers, one in each restroom, and multiple sinks.
"If folks are with their kids, the family rooms make it nice so parents don't have to take their children into the regular restrooms," 4-H Camp Pioneer's Board member Phil Tomblyn told The Inter-Mountain. "The entire facility is going to be a nice addition for anyone who comes to visit Camp Pioneer."
4-H Camp Pioneer offers a wide range of recreational opportunities, making it the perfect destination for summer camps, retreats, reunions, family camping, outdoor events, parties and weddings.
The camp can host large and small public and private events, as well as numerous indoor and outdoor facilities. Dakan Arena, a custom equine facility, is also located at the camp.
"There's multiple things we do at Camp Pioneer and once this is finished it is going to help a great deal," said Tomblyn. "We are not only the fallout facility for the county in emergency situations, but we also host many different events such as horse shows, weddings, and youth camps. The county fair is there every year and we have many camping spots available for people. So once this project is done, it's going to be a big plus for our many visitors and for emergencies if we need it."
Funding for the work that has already been completed at the facility has been achieved through numerous donations from throughout the community and beyond. The Herman Isner Trust has been one of the top three contributors to the project, Tomblyn said.
"They (Herman Isner Trust) feel really strongly about Camp Pioneer and what it does for kids," Tomblyn said. "They have been tremendous in helping us out. But we have had many other individuals who have really stepped up and given to us as well."
Anyone wishing to make a donation is asked to make a check out to the West Virginia University Foundation. Those can be mailed to 1 Waterfront Place, Seventh Floor, P.O. Box 1650, Morgantown, 26507. Donors are asked to write 4-H Camp Pioneer 24544 Bathhouse Project on the memo line.
