ELKINS -- The first-ever Welcome to Spring event at the Seneca Mall Atrium on Saturday will offer activities and information stations for both adults and children.
The family friendly event, which is sponsored by Our Town Inc., is scheduled to run from noon to 1:30 p.m. and will take place in the newly renovated open area of the mall.
Some of the activities planned for children at the celebration include: face paintings, leaf rubbing art, spinning, seed planting, pinwheel making and creating edible terrariums. Giveaways for children will include children's books, gardening tools and seeds for them to plant.
In addition to a seed swap, adults will be able to obtain information about tree planting and care, growing herbs, planning a successful garden, child care and family safety issues.
Free herb tea tasting and cookies will be included along with sweet treats, jams, and jellies to purchase. A door prize drawing will include: inflatable swimming pools, a gym membership from Seven Performance, a facial from Fitlife/Fitstyle, posh beauty products, a garden flag from Ace Hardware, gift certificate from Mary's Greenhouse, a decorative lantern from Delmonte Market, a gift certificate from Guilty Pleasures Sweet Shop, and a one-hour lesson from Mountain Gymnastics Academy.
"The Welcome to Spring celebration is going to be a fun event for the entire family," Our Town volunteer Bobbi Trimboli told The Inter-Mountain. "Mom and dad may go and talk to someone about what's wrong with some of the trees in their yard, while at the same time the kids can be doing an art project about leaves. There's going to be a lot of things to do for both adults and children."
The new atrium area at the Seneca Mall was designed to be an inviting space that encourages community gatherings, events,and social meetings between friends.
