ELKINS -- A Randolph County grand jury handed down 53 indictments involving 50 individuals Monday, for charges including murder and child neglect.
Heath Michael Coberly, 49, of Elkins, and now an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of murder and one count of assault during the commission of and attempt to commit a felony.
Coberly was taken into custody and charged in the early morning of Nov. 19, 2021 after police tracked him down approximately an hour after finding Timothy Slayton, 41, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at a Whiteman Avenue residence in Elkins, according to the criminal complaint.
Slayton was moved into the residence and officers with the Elkins Police Department provided medical aid to him until Randolph County Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene, the criminal complaint states. He was then transported to Davis Medical Center, where he died shortly after arriving.
That same morning, Coberly was taken into custody at his residence on South Kerens Avenue, according to the complaint. While there, officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the one that fled the scene. Officers also located a spent shell casing on the front seat.
Following a mirandized interview with Coberly, he allegedly admitted to willfully traveling to Slayton's location and allegedly confessed to shooting him. Coberly is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail without bond.
In a separate and unrelated indictment, Coberly was also indicted Monday on one count of transportation of a controlled substances onto the grounds of a correctional facility and one count of possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, both felonies.
According to the criminal complaint, Coberly was discovered attempting to bring a cylinder containing pills into TVRJ the same day he was arrested and charged with murder. The pills were "consistent with buprenorphine hydrochloride 8mg which is classified as a schedule III controlled substance."

Brittany Ann Cottle, 30, of Valley Bend, was indicted on three counts of child neglect creating risk of serious bodily injury or death, a felony, and one count of driving under the influence with minors in the vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Billy Joe Currence Jr., 35, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference, a felony, and one count of fleeing from an officer by any means other than the use of a vehicle, one count of no insurance, one count of improper registration, and one count of operating a vehicle with an expired motor vehicle inspection sticker, all misdemeanors.
Michael Lee Dilley, 50, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on 10 counts of possession of material depicting a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, a felony.
Wilson Dale Armstrong, 41, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of domestic battery, third or subsequent offense, a felony.
Kristina Dawn Bennett, 42, of Circleville, was indicted on one count of shoplifting, third offense, and two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, both felonies.
Brittany Rae Cave, 36, of Valley Bend, was indicted on four counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony.
Collin Ray Elswick, 23, of Elkins, was indicted on two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, and one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, both felonies.
Sean Kody Ferris, 34, of Grafton, was indicted on one count of grand larceny, a felony, and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, a felony.
Zachary Brophy Flanagan, 27, of Mabie, was indicted on one count of fraudulent schemes, a felony, and one count of trespass in structure or conveyance, a misdemeanor.
Carl Wayne Green, 42, an inmate of Mount Olive Correctional Complex, was indicted on one count of possession of a controlled substance by inmate, and one count of offense committed by inmate, both felonies.
Rachel Sara Hardesty, 37, an inmate of Lakin Correctional Center, was indicted on two counts of transportation of controlled substances onto the grounds of a correctional facility, two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance by inmate, one count of conspiracy, and one count of offense committed by inmate, all felonies.
Destiny Faith Pennington, 23, of Huttonsville, was indicted on two counts of possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, one count of conspiracy, and one count of offense committed by an inmate, all felonies.
Jennifer Ann Howell, 43, of Moorefield, was indicted on two counts of possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, one count of conspiracy, and one count of offense committed by an inmate, all felonies.
Crystal Renea Hedrick, 31, an inmate of Lakin Correctional Center, was indicted on one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony.
Caleb Wade Himes, 27, an inmate at Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of strangulation, a felony, and one count of unlawful restraint, and one count of domestic battery, a misdemeanor.
Joshua Lynn Hinchman, 26, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, a felony, and one count of no insurance,one count of driving while license suspended, third offense, and one count of no registration, all misdemeanors.
Clyde Henry Huffman, 67, of Elkins, was indicted on five counts of sexual assault in the first degree, a felony, and five counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian, or person in a position of trust to a child, a felony.
Henry Clay Jenkins, 48, an inmate of Huttonsville Correctional Center, was indicted on one count of possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, and one count of offense committed by an inmate, both felonies.
Robert Earl Knight, 29, of Fairmont, was indicted on one count of burglary, a felony, and one count of domestic battery, and one count of destruction of property, both misdemeanors.
Jessica Leigh Knox, 45, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of child neglect creating risk of serious bodily injury or death, a felony. Stephanie Renee Long, 39, of Marlinton, was indicted on one count of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference, and one count of destruction of property, both felonies, and one count of assault upon a law enforcement officer, and one count of improper registration, both misdemeanors.
Theresa Ann McCauley, 53, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on two counts of wanton endangerment involving a firearm, a felony.

Garland Lee Murray, 39, an inmate of Mount Olive Correctional Complex, was indicted on three counts of malicious assault, and three counts of offense committed by an inmate, all felonies.

Christina Marie Shiflett, 32, of Mill Creek, was indicted on one count of receiving stolen goods, a felony, and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, a felony.
Paige Marie Smith, 24, of Charleston, was indicted on three counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony.
Rodney Howard Stemple, 49, an inmate of Huttonsville Correctional Center, was indicted on one count of possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, and one count of offense committed by an inmate, both felonies.
William Owen Underwood, 58, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference, a felony, and one count of fleeing from an officer by any means other than the use of a vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Dustin William Vess, 41, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of wanton endangerment involving a firearm, and one count of possession by prohibited person of a firearm, both felonies, and one count of fleeing from an officer by any means other than the use of a vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Jeffrey Davis Wadkins, 35, of Statesboro, Georgia, was indicted on seven counts of forgery, seven counts of uttering, one count of taking the identity of another person,and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol, third or subsequent offense, all felonies.
Amanda Lynn Wagner, 32, of Bramwell, was indicted on two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony.
Joshua Aaron Walther, 34, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of burglary, and two counts of attempted burglary, all felonies, and one count of battery upon a law enforcement officer, two counts of destruction of property, and two counts of assault, all misdemeanors.
Heather Nicole Watson, 34, of Parsons, was indicted on one count of shoplifting, third offense, a felony.
David Allen Welch, 24, of Valley Head, was indicted on one count of burglary, a felony, and one count of petit larceny, and one count of destruction of property, both misdemeanors.
Justin Douglas Ward, 24, of Mabie, was indicted on three counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, both felonies.
Carolyne Leah White, 29, of Elkins, was indicted on three counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Dustin Lynn White, 20, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference, a felony, and one count of improper registration, a misdemeanor.
In a separate and unrelated indictment, White was indicted on one count of shoplifting, third offense, a felony.
In a third separate and unrelated indictment, White was indicted on one count of shoplifting, third offense, a felony.
Christina Arlene Wolford, 33, an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of burglary, a felony, and one count of destruction of property, and one count of attempted petit larceny, both misdemeanors.
In an indictment presented by Special Prosecuting Attorney Frank Bush, Jason Collins, 43, of Elkins, was indicted on one count of first degree arson, one count of burning insured property, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
In a second indictment presented by Bush, Elwood Lynn Hebb, 47, was indicted on one count of first degree arson, three counts of third degree arson, one count of burning insured property, and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Bond return for the indictments will be on July 6 at 1:30 p.m., at which time bond will be set and trial dates will be determined.
An indictment is merely an accusation and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
