ELKINS -- Elkins Main Street will host an awards reception to honor four local businesses on July 9.
The "Heritage and Horizon Awards" reception will "recognize four local businesses and their owners for their commitment to creating a vibrant and livable downtown Elkins," according to an Elkins Main Street press release.
Two businesses will receive the Heritage Award for "their selfless contributions to our downtown for many years" -- Citizens Bank of West Virginia and El Gran Sabor.
Two newer businesses that "have made significant recent contributions to strengthening our community's future" will each receive the Horizon Award -- TipTop and Jimbo's Place.
The reception is an annual fundraiser for Elkins Main Street. Two sets of honorees will be recognized because the awards have not been presented since before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
The reception will be from 5-6:30 p.m. July 9 at the Hilda & Robert R. Butler Lobby of The McDonnell Center at Davis & Elkins College.
After the event, guests are invited to join The Rustic Mechanicals, West Virginia's only professional Shakespeare troupe, for a special performance of William Shakespeare's "Love's Labour's Lost" in the Augusta Dance Pavilion.
"We're excited to bring the Heritage & Horizon Awards back to celebrate and honor four downtown businesses," Scott Goddard, EMS Board president, said. "We encourage the community to join us for this event. We're also excited to pair the reception with the Rustic Mechanical's Shakespeare performance at the Augusta Pavilion at D&E. Everyone is welcome."
During the event, guests will enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Event proceeds will benefit Elkins Main Street and support programming to grow the vibrant downtown experience and environment. There is a cost to attend the event. Space is limited and advance reservations are required.
Reservations may be made at the Elkins Main Street office located at the Wood Tech Center, or online at bit.ly/heritageandhorizon.
