ELKINS — The Save A Lot grocery store located on the Beverly Five Lane closed its doors permanently Saturday.

The store was closed so that it could be transformed into a second Shop N Save location in Elkins. Both brands are owned by CGP Development, which currently has 15 Shop N Save stores in West Virginia.

“The Save A Lot is going to be a new Shop N Save and we are staying her,e too, we’re not closing or moving,” Roslin Howell, manager of the Shop N Save in the Tygart Valley Mall in Elkins, told The Inter-Mountain Tuesday. “They (ownership) just wanted to change all of the Save A Lots in the state over to Shop N Save stores and the one in Elkins was next on the list.”

Howell said the stores are similar in the items that they sell, other than Shop N Save having more bulk items.

“Some of the brands are different between the two stores, but they both carry the same kind of items,” she said. “The new store will pretty much have all the same items that the current Shop N Save has.”

Howell said the biggest difference at the new location is that it will have a full deli once the store is reopened.

“They are putting a full deli in at the new location,” she said. “That’s the major thing they are doing as far as the construction goes. This past Saturday was the last day the Save A Lot was open and they are already in the building today (Tuesday) working.”

Howell said all the employees who were working at Save A Lot have retained their jobs and that the estimated time for the new store location to open is six to eight weeks.

Shop N Save stores can be found throughout the state, many of which are located in the immediate area. Other than the stores in Elkins, there are locations in Belington, Buckhannon, Davis, Parsons and Philippi.

There are also stores in Western Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and Ohio.

Starting at $3.92/week.
