ELKINS -- Officials have identified the person killed in an accident on the Ward Road earlier this month.
The Aug. 10 crash resulted in the death of a 39-year-old Belington woman, according to a press release from Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon.
Christy Jo Robinson was transported to Davis Medical Center, where she passed away the day after the accident, the release states. Identification was withheld until the investigation was complete and next of kin were notified, officials said.
At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 10, Elbon was called to the accident. He observed a blue 2005 Hyundai Elantra that had sustained extensive right front-end damage. The driver of the vehicle, Robinson, was unresponsive and being treated and removed from the car by the Elkins Fire Department and Randolph County Emergency Squad, according to the release.
Elbon also observed a white 2019 Chevrolet 2500 that had sustained extensive front-end damage, according to the release. The truck was pulling a tandem axle box trailer.
The sheriff's investigation determined that Robinson in the Elantra was eastbound on the road and approached the same curve that the Chevrolet was entering. It was also determined that the Elantra was traveling at a high rate of speed, and Robinson lost control as she entered the left-hand curve. The vehicle crossed the centerline and struck the truck head-on, the release states.
The investigation determined the Elantra then spun around in the roadway, and traveled back across the road before coming to a rest partly off the roadway in the car's original lane of travel, according to the release. The truck's driver and a passenger in the truck were uninjured and refused treatment from the Randolph County Emergency Squad.
