BUCKHANNON -- Company officials confirm that the Buckhannon Sheetz will close for six months next year to allow for extensive remodeling, including adding a drive-thru lane to the popular convenience store.
The North Locust Street facility is scheduled to close about the third week of March, and remain closed for approximately six months while the renovation work is done, a Sheetz official told The Inter-Mountain Thursday.
The remodeled, 6,000-feet store will feature a drive-thru lane -- similar to the one at the Elkins Sheetz location on the Beverly Five-lane -- and 10 fuel pumps.
The renovation work will also result in a "restaurant-style experience with self-service kiosks and additional seating both inside and outside the store," according to information released by Nick Ruffner, PR manager for Sheetz.
The Buckhannon Sheetz's employees will be able to work at other company locations temporarily during the remodeling phase, he noted.
The Sheetz location on Berlin Road in Weston off of exit 99 is currently closed for remodeling that will continue until March.
Sheetz operates more than 600 stores throughout West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina. More than 1,200 individuals are employed by Sheetz in West Virginia.
Sheetz was established in 1952 as a family-owned business and remains so today.
As it expanded over the years, the convenience store chain adapted to changing markets with innovations such as Sheetz coffee, bakery goods, and quality "made-to-order" food that customers can order electronically on a touchscreen or online.
