BUCKHANNON -- Law enforcement officers, including Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, searched the home of a former Buckhannon mayor Friday.
Along with FBI officers, representatives of the Pittsburgh Police Department and the Upshur County Sheriff's Office were seen at the house on Meade Street Friday morning. The home is reportedly owned by David McCauley, a former mayor and a current Buckhannon City Council member.
A press release from the City of Buckhannon was issued Friday afternoon.
"The City of Buckhannon has been made aware of an investigation involving a member of City Council," according to the release. "The city will continue to closely follow this case, and will act appropriately as facts emerge, but the city has no further comment at this time."
The Pittsburgh FBI Field Office confirmed that law enforcement activity was taking place at the home but offered no further information, according to news reports. The Pittsburgh FBI Field Office has jurisdiction over all of West Virginia and western Pennsylvania.
FBI agents reportedly took items from the home. Officers were still at the house on Friday afternoon.
