BEVERLY -- The town of Beverly will once again provide area residents a chance to look into Christmases past when it hosts the annual Old-Fashioned Christmas Celebration on Saturday.
The celebration has become one of the Beverly Heritage Center's main attractions in recent years as guests from near and far visit the town for a full day of holiday events.
"We had over 150 people come out to last year's celebration," said Jessica Black, an AmeriCorps volunteer who has worked the event the past two years. "It was a really good turnout, definitely. And we passed out every single tote bag that we made for the kids."
This year's Old-Fashioned Christmas will get underway bright and early when the Beverly Fire Hall hosts Breakfast with Santa beginning at 8 a.m. The breakfast, which will run until 11 a.m., will offer meals consisting of two pancakes, two sausages and a drink.
Buddy the Elf will be on hand to greet children alongside Santa and Mrs. Claus. Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Elkins High School Class of 2023 Project Safe Graduation Party.
Beginning at 10 a.m., a wide variety of games, activities and grafts will be available for guests to partake in. There will be a meet-and-greet with a Victorian Santa Claus at the Beverly Bank beginning at 10 a.m. as well.
The event will run until 5 p.m. and will also include live music, caroling, handmade arts and crafts, a holiday pop-up shop, and free tote bags for children who attend. Tote bags will be available under the tent at the Beverly Heritage Center.
"We have several different things this year that we are very excited about," Black said. "One of those new events is our scavenger hunt that will take you throughout the town of Beverly looking for different items. We are also going to have bingo, which is also new this year. We are going to have in the afternoon in the old Odd Fellows building and we are going to be giving out board games to the winners."
There will be drinks for sale in the Hill Building and free caricatures for the first time this year. The day will conclude with the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Beverly Town Square at 5 p.m.
