ELKINS -- An incumbent Randolph County delegate who won election to a new district seat Tuesday night offered thanks Wednesday to those who supported him in the race.
"I would like to thank the people of Randolph and Pocahontas counties for the opportunity to serve as their delegate for another term," William "Ty" Nestor told The Inter-Mountain
Wednesday.
In the newly established 66th District, Nestor, a Republican, won election to the delegate seat, defeating Democrat Robert "Bob" Sheets.
Nestor received 3,092 votes across the district, or 66% of the vote, while Sheets received 1,588, or 34%, according to unofficial results.
"I commend Mr. Robert 'Bob' Sheets for his honorable campaign and wish him the best in his future endeavors," Nestor said Wednesday. "I am excited to get back to work and continue the positive momentum that I helped to create during my first term in office.
"I can never offer enough thanks to those people who have and continue to support me. I know that moving our state in the proper direction is my duty as your representative and I want to exceed your expectations."
In Randolph County, Nestor received 2,225 votes, to Sheets' 951 votes.
In Pocahontas County, Nestor garnered 867 votes, while Sheets totaled 637.
Nestor came into Tuesday's General Election as an incumbent delegate for the 43rd District, which after redistricting this year was separated into District 66 and District 67.
