ELKINS — The Midland Public Service District celebrated a milestone when it officially broke ground for a new office and maintenance facility to be built at its current location in Glenmore.
“We’ve been working on this project for the past couple of years,” Ron Vance, director of the Midland Public Service District, told The Inter-Mountain prior to the groundbreaking ceremony.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held to celebrate the occasion and featured Randolph County Commissioners David Kesling and Cris Siler, MPSD Board Chairman Frank Santmyer, MPSD Secretary and Treasurer Elaine Valentine, MPSD Board Member Steve Schumacher, West Virginia Department of Administration Cabinet Secretary Mark Scott and Gov. Jim Justice’s Regional Representative Lynn Phillips.
The new facility was designed by architectural and engineering consultant The Thrasher Group of Bridgeport. The estimated cost for the project is $3.75 million and the Randolph County Commission provided funding for the project. Nearly one million dollars came from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
Veritas Contracting will officially begin construction and the new facility is expected to be completed on an estimated nine-month construction schedule.
The current facilities were constructed in the 1960s. The new design is a modern solution to a yearslong issue with storage, security and temperature control.
All labor, materials, equipment, fees, insurance, bonds, taxes and contractor expenses are included in the total price of the 40x30x13 office and 60x80x20 shop. Work at the buildings also includes all related plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical work, site related work and utilities.
The new complex will also allow the Midland PSD to expedite customer call response times, ensure the safety and security of PSD property, and serve as a true hub for all the needs of the customers.
Midland Public Service District said the agency is committed to providing safe, high quality water services to our community, while maintaining a standard of excellence in customer service and environmental conservation.
