RANDOLPH COUNTY -- Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon said one person was shot and killed at a residence along Chenoweth Creek Road Monday afternoon.
"It started out as a dog being shot and while we were responding, we got the call of a male subject that had been shot," Elbon told The Inter-Mountain.
He said as law enforcement officers were responding around 5 p.m., they were told by communications from the Randolph County 911 Center that the suspect had "shot the rounds and ran back in the house."
Elbon said the Special Response Team, including officers from the Elkins Police Department and the West Virginia State Police, responded to the scene. He said officers spoke with the suspect and the individual complied with officers and was placed under arrest.
Elbon said law enforcement was still on scene at 8:30 p.m. and the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Unit was called to process the scene.
"They will work the scene and then turn it back over to us," Elbon said.
The names of the suspect and victim have not been released. Elbon said the investigation is ongoing and charges will be filed.
