Manchin: $1M in grants provided for state projects

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $1,072,505 from the Appalachian Regional Commission for 13 West Virginia projects.

The awards include an administrative grant of $100,750 for the Region 7 Planning & Development Council, which will host a listening session for Randolph and Barbour counties at 1 p.m. today at the Phil Gainer Community Center.

The purpose of today’s meeting is to gather input from residents concerning a sub-grant award that the Planning and Development Council has received from the West Virginia Office of Broadband. Feedback from the listening sessions will be shared with state officials and used to outline their plan for future broadband deployment across the state.

The funding Manchin announced will support increasing staffing and strengthening administrative capacities for eleven Local Development Districts (LDDs) and two non-profit organizations across the state.

“The Appalachian Regional Commission’s continued investment in revitalizing and strengthening Appalachia is great news for West Virginia and the entire region. The funding announced today will help increase staffing and bolster administrative capabilities for eleven local districts and two non-profits across our great state,” Manchin said.

“Investing in our local communities creates good-paying jobs and spurs economic opportunity, and I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of these projects for the Mountain State. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to boost economic growth across Appalachia.”

ARC LDDs Administrative Grants help LDDs increase staffing and capacity to support local governments and nonprofits in the management of federal funding opportunities.
