Youth Health to offer Family Spring Fling

By Edgar Kelley 2 min read

ELKINS -- Youth Health Services' first big event of the year will be on April 8 with a Family Fun Spring Fling event at the Elkins Rotary Amphitheater in Town Square.

The event will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and will feature a scavenger hunt for children of all ages. The hunt will take participants to an array of downtown businesses and eventually back to Town Square.

"Last year was the first year that we held this event," Hannah Dodson, Youth Health Families Support Center director, told The Inter-Mountain.

"It was the first thing we did resuming spring activities after COVID. And while we are all for Easter Egg hunts, normally they are kind of harder to tailor to more than one age group. So we are going with the Scavenger Hunt again, where the kids can go to the same locations, but there will be different riddles for them to solve. So they kind of get to pick what difficulty level they would want to do."

When arriving back from the Scavenger Hunt, participants' parents can take a walk around a Resource Fair that will be set up next to the Town Square Amphitheater.

"Those setting up at the Resource Fair will have many resources for families in the community to benefit from," Dodson said. "They will have tables set up behind the Train Depot to give away their information.

"We have many different participants planning to set up, including someone from the Treasury Office who will be coming down to help people search unclaimed properties. We are looking at anywhere from 10 to 15 tables to be set up there."

There will be live entertainment and goodies for those who want to remain at Town Square after finishing up the scavenger hunt. Any child who participates in the scavenger hunt will receive a prize.

"Last year we had some bigger prize baskets that had tailgating games, water guns and things like that in them," said Dodson. "Some of those will be available again, but every child who comes out will leave with a smaller goodie bag, no matter how they do in the scavenger hunt. The smaller bags last year had things like a little parachute troopers, slime, fidgets and little knick knacks."
