ELKINS -- The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce will present its annual Legislative Luncheon on Thursday at The Arts Center on Harrison Avenue.
A lunch buffet will be available at 11:30 a.m. and the program will get underway at noon.
Delegate Ty Nestor, R-District 66; Delegate Elias Coop-Gonzalez, R-District 67; state Sen. Robert Karnes, R-11th District; and state Sen. Bill Hamilton, R-11 District will be on hand to answer questions from moderator Sidney Megna, who was the 2021 American Legion Auxiliary Rhododendron Girls State Governor.
"The moderator will have five or six questions they will ask each legislator," said Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce executive director Lisa Wood. "Then there will be a period at the end where those attending the luncheon can ask any questions that they may have."
The luncheon is being sponsored by Performance Chevrolet, and all proceeds taken in from the event will go toward two students' tuition costs for this year's Rhododendron Girls State.
The Leadership Randolph Class, which will be in its government session day, will also be attending the luncheon. The initiative of that class is to develop and prepare local leaders to help move Randolph County forward.
The class has once-a-month sessions and consists of individuals from various organizations in the area. The group includes Heidi Bray, Erin Brown, Adriana Channel, Angela Daniels, Jordan Godwin, Jeremiah Jasper, Jace Kyle, Colin McFadden, Matt Osborne, Samantha Peet, Tammie Rizzo and Brady Wildman.
"They are happy that the money we collect from the event will send one or two individuals from our area to Girls State," Wood said. "This is the second year that we have sponsored individuals for that event. It just makes sense for us to do so because Girls State is all about learning local and state government, and it's held in Randolph County. It all just fits together."
Reservations for the luncheon will be accepted all the way up to the day before the event. Reservations can be made at www.erccc.com.
