Elkins designates Day of Prayer

ELKINS -- Mayor Jerry Marco has signed a proclamation naming Thursday, May 4 a Day of Prayer in the City of Elkins.
Marco was joined at the signing by members from the Elkins United Christian Community Center, including Van Broughton, Imre Barsy, Roberta Gray, Vicki Fowler, Roger Corder, Diana Johnson and Greg Johnson.
"I'm glad people were willing to come together and do the Day of Prayer Proclamation signing," Marco said. "I think the reason that our city is being successful is because we have so many active churches in the community that are trying to help our citizens out.
"They've stepped up in a big way the past couple years I've been in office. Whether it's offering to feed people, finding people shelter, or getting clothing for those who need it, our churches have been there."
The EUCCC will offer a community prayer on Thursday as part of the National Day of Prayer, which first began in 1952 through a joint act of Congress.
The prayer will be at the Elkins Railyard Amphitheater from 11 a.m. until noon.
"Mayor Marco is a very faithful person and that really impresses me," Barsy told The Inter-Mountain. "He wants to be involved in the local community and we are happy that he signed the proclamation. We are also excited to be participating in the National Day of Prayer on Thursday. I really think we are going to have a good turnout for it."
The EUCCC is a group of united Christians inspiring hope through service, fellowship and the good news of Jesus Christ. It works as a conduit in the community to feed the spiritual and physical needs of neighbors of all ages and backgrounds. It's made up of different denominations of churches working together in unity for Jesus.
EUCCC member churches include: Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, Elkins Family Worship Center, First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, Goff Street Church of Christ, Highland Park United Methodist Church, Orlena United Methodist Church, Otterbein United Methodist Church, Rivers Living Water Ministries, Summit Church, and Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church.
